Message from Richard Bee, Head Librarian

March 17, 2020

ATTENTION: On Friday, March 20, the Portage la Prairie Regional Library will be closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we are a public gathering space, and cannot guarantee proper hygienic conditions in the facility, the decision was made to close in order to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19.

We will remain open on the 17th from 10-8, the 18th from 10-5, and the 19th from 10-5. However, while we are open for these 3 days this week, we have cancelled all of our library programming and have restricted our access to public computers. We ask that anyone who is displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 (coughing, fever, difficulty breathing), or anyone who is considered vulnerable to COVID-19, refrain from coming to the Library during this time.

We are hoping to re-open to the public on April 14, but this is conditional on how efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 have gone. In order to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, we ask everyone to follow proper hygiene practices and social distancing/self-isolation as much as possible.

Staff will continue to work at the Library while we are closed to the public, Tuesday-Saturday 9-5, so if you have any questions or concerns please contact us by phone (204-857-4271) or by email (

This is a difficult and stressful time for many people.
Please make sure to keep yourself and others safe, be considerate to the difficulties many in our community face during this time, and be kind and patient to those working during this epidemic (especially to health care workers).
